Facing surgery

Good news for Easter…
You may notice a request from me at the end of the day, for encouragement through songs. I posted it on Facebook on April 23, and was overwhelmed by the amazing response I received.
Well, I took a break for Easter – Holy Week is crazy busy for us, as it is for all churchworkers. Then we had a busy week after Easter, preparing for an event at church and getting ready for vacation. Then we had a week of vacation, then a week back at work catching up. So I’m finally back after four weeks away!
I should have taken time to write ahead, but this is hard, emotional work. I will definitely find more mental space next week. For now, this is a glimpse of another piece of our lives during that time:
On Good Friday, my sister started a CaringBridge page for our sweet daughter. It was easier for her to update than it was for us to set it up from our phones. Remember back to the days when smart phones weren’t super smart? And internet access was sometimes spotty? And you had to pay a million dollars for data if you didn’t have wifi? Yeah, this was that time.
I will return to my current mini-series about the week that changed everything tomorrow. But sometimes, current events dictate a bit of a detour…
The amazing NICU doctors got our daughter stabilized, but machines were part of the deal. Tubes, wires, leads, etc. came off of our daughter every which-way. We couldn’t hold her. And they needed to run so. many. tests.
As the day progressed on Wednesday, Samantha grew much sicker…
Next week is Holy Week. And this is the first time the dates have gotten so close to what we experienced 8 years ago. Palm Sunday that year was on April 17. This year it’s on the 14th.
I’m going to try to recount the events as they happened over the course of that week, to the best of my ability. Not sure how many posts it will take, or when it will be done. So here we go…
