Firehouse, God's love, gratitude, husband, joy, love, Love of a Lifetime, Psalm 33, song, wife
On the way into work today, a song came on the radio that made me smile. “Love of a Lifetime” by Firehouse. Yes, it’s old school. That’s why I smiled. Back when I was a freshman in high school, I had a pen-pal boyfriend. We never saw each other the entire time we were “going out.” To be honest, I’m not even sure if he thought of me as his girlfriend. But the song reminded me of one letter I received where he had doodled the name of the band Firehouse in the margin and written next to it that they were an awesome band.
This particular song has a chorus that goes:
I finally found the love of a lifetime
A love to last my whole life through
I finally found the love of a lifetime
Forever in my heart, I finally found the love of a lifetime
I’m sure back when I was 14, I thought those lyrics were true of my “relationship.” It wasn’t the first time and thankfully, it wasn’t the last time either. Considering I have no idea what became of that young man or where he is now, how depressing would it be if he was my love of a lifetime?
God had other plans for me. For one, He wanted me to find my source of love in Him, first and forever. For another, I could not have imagined the man I would meet in college and fall in love with for good. I’m so thankful for my husband and the gift he is every day to me.
All of this brings me to today’s passage, from Psalm 33:1-5.
Shout for joy in the Lord, O you righteous!
Praise befits the upright.
Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre;
make melody to him with the harp of ten strings!
Sing to him a new song;
play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.
For the word of the Lord is upright,
and all his work is done in faithfulness.
He loves righteousness and justice;
the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord.
The love songs on the radio eventually come up empty. I’d venture to guess that heartache followed up that song from Firehouse. But this song, this Psalm, stands forever. God, our heavenly Father, is truly the love of a lifetime, a love and a lifetime that last forever!
