I didn’t go into church yesterday. My husband is doing his best to help me monitor my time so I’m not overdoing it. So today I’m doing some work from home, including working on ideas for the Christmas program in preparation for a meeting tonight. I am so thankful that there are a lot of folks who have been doing Sunday school, Christmas programs, and VBS at this church for a while and who have said they want to help with these kinds of things. So while I’ve been sketching ideas for the program, I’m holding off on doing too much until the meeting tonight when I’ll learn more about what kinds of things have been done in the past. Does the program fill the entire Sunday morning service, or just replace the sermon? How many kids are generally involved? Does it include preschoolers? What about high school? All of these are things that until we meet, I won’t really know. Plus I’ve heard about some platforms that get brought into the sanctuary, but I don’t know what those are or if it’s just a rumor. So what does the space look like? How many costumes do we have, and do they need work? And on and on and on…
But I’m looking forward to it. Getting all of these questions answered will start us on the road to having a plan, and then delegating tasks can happen. I’ve struggled with delegating in the past, but the good thing about starting a job while I’m pregnant is that this baby basically demands that I delegate. I can’t physically lift anything. I don’t have the energy to go go go for hours on end. And we are at a church where people keep coming to me and asking how they can help. Not that we haven’t had willing helpers at previous churches, but it’s a novelty to have multiple people offering help with specific projects.
Tomorrow I will be working on follow-up from tonight’s meeting (hopefully even getting a letter out to parents) and continuing to clean out the office. In the meantime, today I’m trying to take it a little easy and perhaps gather some of the stuff I want to take to my office. And in the meantime, please keep praying for Mark. He went to the doctor yesterday and we’re waiting to hear back as to the game plan for treatment, possibly including hospitalization. So my sister and the kids may be returning sooner than we thought, and that means we need to hurry up on some things we planned to get done before they get back (like moving some of our office supplies out of the guest room to allow us access to it without invading their privacy).
Yes, we are busy, but it’s nice being busy. I’ve spent way too much time in recent years glued to the television (particularly during my first trimester). Now if this “morning” sickness would just go away…
